He enlisted in the U.S. Army, attended ASTP at the University of Illinois in November 1943 as a private first class, and trained in counterintelligence at Camp Ritchie (Class 25).

	In ~~November 1943,~~ Stark ~~attended ASTP at University of Illinois as Pfc.~~		In Europe Stark performed counterintelligence work that included operating under the cover name “Karl Werner.” An oral history summary at the Holocaust Memorial Center (Zekelman Family Campus) also associates him with interpreter duty at the Nuremberg trials and other postwar intelligence tasks. He later novelized aspects of his wartime experience in the manuscript ''Alias Karl Werner''. Stark died on 25 July 1995 in Oakland, Michigan.
