Biography
Stephen C. Lion (often spelled Stephan) was born on 23 March 1916 in Munich, Germany, and held Austrian citizenship. Educated in Vienna, he entered the U.S. Army in 1942 with the 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment at Camp Hale, Colorado, where he completed basic training, instructed in skiing, and worked as a personnel clerk.
