Phillip A. Toomey (born 1907) was a Ritchie Boy who trained at Camp Ritchie.
Biography
Phillip A. Toomey (often spelled Philip in contemporary Army documents) was born on 30 April 1907 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He enlisted on 23 June 1942 and, before his commission as a second lieutenant in March 1943, completed Military Intelligence Training Center instruction at Camp Ritchie.
Toomey took part in the French Morocco landings with a French interrogation team attached to the Western Task Force and later served as interpreter and translator in the G-2 section of the 2d Armored Division. From September 1943 he worked with headquarters elements in the Mediterranean and European theaters, including Joint Rearmament Committee / AFHQ and Southern Line of Communications G-2, where his fluency in French, Spanish, and German (and working knowledge of Italian, Romanian, and Russian) supported intelligence liaison.
Toomey died on 10 July 1991.
