Calvin Henry Bartholomew (8 January 1917 – 1991) was a Utah-born Ritchie Boy who interrogated German prisoners in North Africa and later returned to Camp Ritchie as an instructor.
Biography
Calvin Henry Bartholomew was born on 8 January 1917 in Fayette, Utah. He attended Brigham Young University, was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and married on 20 December 1941 in the Manti Temple. The couple taught school in Utah before he entered the Army.
Bartholomew was drafted on 2 June 1942 at Fort Douglas, Utah (enlisted ASN 39026635). He took part in the landings at Casablanca in November 1942 and served as an interrogator of German prisoners of war in North Africa. After their first son was born in March 1943, he was recalled to Camp Ritchie, Maryland, to teach; the family lived nearby in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. Roster and timeline research record him in Class 8 and later associate him with officer ASN 0534746 as a second and first lieutenant; he also appears as a master sergeant in Camp Ritchie class materials.
Later wartime assignment included work connected with the ASF Depot in Ogden, Utah. He died in 1991.
