Theodore W. Henning (1913–1978) was a German-born U.S. Army master sergeant who trained at Camp Ritchie in Class 12 and served with IPW Team 49 in Normandy.

Biography

Theodore W. Henning (Ted; also Theodor) was born in 1913 in Germany and later lived in Newark, New Jersey. He trained at Camp Ritchie, Maryland, in Class 12 and served as a master sergeant with IPW Team 49.

In July 1944 near Cherbourg, France, Signal Corps photographers recorded Henning and staff sergeant Walt Strauss listening to an escaped Russian soldier who reported that comrades from a conscripted German Ost battalion near Smolensk wished to surrender. The story appeared in Yank (Signal Corps release 12 July 1944). Other IPW 49 field photos place him with captain Herbert K. Oehmichen.

Henning died in 1978.
