* Mid 1945 — Returned to U.S. and remained in Army.

* He was assigned in Europe to the 2nd and 13th Armored Divisions, then given command of the 46th Tank Battalion of the 13th Armored Division with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He led the 46th in campaigns through the Rhineland and Bavaria. On April 17, 1945, near Mudlinghoven, Germany, he organized a volunteer commando task force to take out the enemy.
