Carl J. Weeldreyer (19 August 1914 – 1985) was a South Dakota-born U.S. Army captain and Ritchie Boy (Class 9) who led IPW Team 23 with the 2nd Armored Division.

Biography

Carl J. Weeldreyer was born on 19 August 1914 in Chancellor, South Dakota. Before the war he worked as an interior and exterior painter and farmhand and attended grammar school in South Dakota (1920–1928).

Weeldreyer completed Officer Candidate School at Fort Riley, Kansas, in December 1941 and was commissioned a second lieutenant (ASN 0452153). He served with a cavalry replacement training center in early 1942 and with the 83rd Division Reconnaissance Troop from August 1942. In June 1943 he entered the Military Intelligence Training Center at Camp Ritchie (Class 9, Section 5G, German IPW), graduating as a captain (certificate 2751). His personal history card rated German speaking as good and reading and writing as fair.

He commanded IPW Team 23 with the 2nd Armored Division (team members recorded with him include De Forest, Finder, Gramckow, Bender, and Wolf). A January 1945 G-2 memo from the division is among the research notes for his overseas service. He died in 1985.
