Morris Parloff was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1918. He studied psychology and social work, learned German in high school, and also spoke Yiddish. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and trained at Camp Ritchie as an interrogator of prisoners of war.


In July 1942, Parloff completed basic training with 52nd Training Battalion. He trained at Camp Ritchie (Class 16). In June 1943, Parloff attended ASTP Boston University (as T/4). He was assigned to IPW Team 94.
In France he served with fellow Ritchie Boy [[Schifter, Richard (32966898)|Richard Schifter]] in a special unit tasked with securing documents and arresting designated persons. While in Aachen, Parloff’s team conducted a large-scale interrogation of remaining civilians; the documentary biography associates that work with the later denazification questionnaire.
 
After returning to the United States at the end of 1945, he earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and became a leading research figure at the National Institute of Mental Health.
