Emerico Nemes was a Ritchie Boy. Nemes attended high school at Milano and continued his studies at the University of Florence. Nemes and his young son then joined him for an extensive and well-earned vacation in Miami before they came to Burlington. Nemes passed away February 24, 1977. The following is from "The Michaelman", Winooski Park, Vermont, dated November 8, 1947. "Meet your Prof" Sailor, soldier, linguist, lawyer, educator! Michael's Language Department. Born in Fiume, in the northern part of Italy. He received his degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence from this institution. Before coming to the United Slates, he served as an officer with the Italian Navy and was released to accept a scholarship in this country at the University of Toledo, arriving here in 1939. While at Toledo, Doctor continued his law studies. for three years. He was associated with the Electrical Construction Co. there before joining the Military Intelligence Corps of the United States Army in 1940. He has many interesting experiences to tell from his 18 months stay in London. Intelligence Corps there during the height of the siege on London, working on official papers and documents captured from Germany and Italy He brought back many papers which bore the signatures of the "powers who were." At present a handwriting analyst, a friend of the Doctor's, is studying them. He told an ironical little tale he-bearing on his work in the London office. In a routine inspection of a Fascist Police document, he ran across a report of a man who had been one of his closest friends at the University of Florence. Further investigation with the man's family proved that he was killed while fighting the Germans behind the lines.

He attended high school in Milan and studied at the University of Florence, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, and served as an officer in the Italian Navy before accepting a scholarship to the University of Toledo, arriving in the United States in 1939.
 
Nemes entered U.S. military intelligence work connected with Camp Ritchie (Class 11). A 1947 Saint Michael's College profile records about eighteen months in London during the Blitz working on captured German and Italian documents and papers. He later taught in the language department at Saint Michael's (Winooski Park, Vermont).
 
He died on 24 February 1977.
