Andre Sussman (5 December 1920–2018), later known as André Surmain, was an Egyptian-born Ritchie Boy (Class 12) who served with the OSS and later owned the New York restaurant Lutèce.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Andre Sussman was born on 5 December 1920 in Cairo, Egypt, to French parents. He studied in Paris, including work toward a bachelor’s degree and postgraduate English study at the Sorbonne, and in 1939–1940 served as a liaison officer with the French Army as a second lieutenant.
Naturalized as a U.S. Citizen in January 1943, he trained at Camp Ritchie, Maryland (Class 12), and joined the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), later using the name André Surmain. After the war he became a noted New York restaurateur as owner of Lutèce.
Sussman died in 2018.
