After postdoctoral training at the Texas Research Foundation he worked as research assistant (1949-50) and later as assistant professor (1951-55) at the Enzyme Institute of the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Henry held a continuing appointment as an Honorary Research Fellow of the University College, London.

He entered [[Camp Ritchie]] [[Class 13]] (IPW German) on 30 October 1943, graduated on 23 December 1943 as a German document examiner, and was promoted to technician third grade on 24 April 1944; roster records associate him with IPW team 62. Family accounts place him interrogating German prisoners from Normandy through the Battle of the Bulge.
