Ephraim (Efraim) Ackermann (20 December 1897 – 29 July 1977) was a Russia-born Ritchie Boy (Class 4) who served as a master sergeant and later second lieutenant with IPW Team 60 of the 35th Infantry Division.

Biography

Ephraim Ackermann (also spelled Efraim Ackerman) was born on 20 December 1897 in Russia. A multi-linguist in German, French, and Russian, he entered U.S. Army service under enlisted ASN 32429795 and trained at Camp Ritchie in Class 4.

Ackermann served with IPW Team 60 attached to the 35th Infantry Division. The team included 1st Lt. Henry D. Rempel, 2nd Lt. Theodor Teimer Jr., M/Sgt. Ackermann, S/Sgt. Eugene Swartz, Tec/3 Vernon O. Heyman, and Tec/5 Hermann Spritzer. Signal Corps photographs show him interrogating prisoners in the field, including work with Tec/5 Fred Marshall. He was later commissioned (officer ASN 02000203). Headquarters, 35th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 32 (13 May 1945) awarded him the Bronze Star for meritorious service in France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Holland, and Germany from 6 July 1944 to 25 April 1945. He is also listed with a Silver Star in Ritchie Boy award research.

Ackermann died on 29 July 1977.
