Toomey took part in the French Morocco landings with a French interrogation team attached to the Western Task Force and later served as interpreter and translator in the G-2 section of the 2d Armored Division. From September 1943 he worked with headquarters elements in the Mediterranean and European theaters, including Joint Rearmament Committee / AFHQ and Southern Line of Communications G-2, where his fluency in French, Spanish, and German (and working knowledge of Italian, Romanian, and Russian) supported intelligence liaison. | |||
