From the Philippines Magazine, dated January 1944, is a blurb on Ritchie Boy Marcos B. Roces attended the Infantry School at Ft. Second Armored Corps, is now at his new post at Military Intelligence Training Center, Camp Ritchie, Md.
Marcos B. Roces was born on 16 December 1917 into a Filipino family of Spanish descent. He attended De La Salle in Manila, continued his schooling in Schwyz, Switzerland, and London, and studied at the University of Notre Dame and Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.


While on furlough recently in Washington he married Mary Lou Stagner. Commissioned in the Army of the U. after his graduation in September, 1942, he reported to the Intelligence Division of the First Filipino Infantry. He served with the First Filipino Regiment in California until July, 1943, when he was transferred to the Second Armored Corps at Fort Ord.
After Bataan fell in April 1942, Roces joined the U.S. Army and graduated from the Infantry School at Fort Benning as a second lieutenant. He served as an intelligence assistant with the 1st Filipino Infantry Regiment, trained at the Presidio of Monterey and Camp Ritchie (Class 13), and joined the Fifth Army G-2 section in Europe in May 1944. Promoted to captain, he served in the Rome-Arno and Northern Apennines campaigns before going to Leyte in 1945 to help organize the reconstituted Philippine Army's G-2 section.


Coming from a large family of rich Spanish landowners, he was sent to Schwyz in Switzerland in 1933 to finish his schooling, and then to St. Joseph's College in London for a high school certificate.
Roces returned to Manila in 1946 and managed Cine Ideal for thirty-two years. He also led the Manila Theater Association, the De La Salle Alumni Association, and civic and film organizations. He died in 1995.
 
Two years later, in 1937, he moved to South Bend, Indiana, to enroll at the Catholic University of Notre Dame. He was attracted to a diplomatic career and so enrolled at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. in the School of Foreign Service. By that rime, in April of 1942, Bataan had fallen to the enemy; and Marquitos felt he had to be of service to his country.
