Ladislas Vajna (often called Ladi) was born in Hungary. Early in World War II he served in the French Army and worked undercover for the French Resistance. His wife Ludwika ("Inka") Vajna and daughter Ottilie ("Lee") were hidden in Villefranche-sur-Mer, France, before the family escaped to the United States. He later trained as a Ritchie Boy.
