Albert Hammond Staton Jr. (1 April 1921 – 29 July 2015) was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He passed the Georgia Tech admission exam at age 15 (and was asked to wait a year), earned a B.S. | Albert Hammond Staton Jr. (1 April 1921 – 29 July 2015) was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He passed the Georgia Tech admission exam at age 15 (and was asked to wait a year), earned a B.S. In chemical engineering there in 1941, and served in the U.S. Army from June 1942 to March 1946—first in chemical munitions at Pine Bluff, Arkansas, then with military intelligence training at Camp Ritchie (classes 22 and 24), and later as an intelligence officer with the 77th Infantry Division in the Philippines and on Kerama Retto, Ie Shima, and Okinawa. He was promoted to captain on Okinawa and received the Bronze Star. After the war he worked for Panamerican Investment Company (Panamco) in Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil, helping build one of the largest Coca-Cola bottling operations outside the United States. He died at his home in Coral Gables, Florida, at age 94. | ||
