Inducted into the Army in 1943, he studied European languages at Princeton and trained at [[Camp Ritchie]] ([[:Category:Class 16|Class 16]]). He served with [[Team IPW 94|IPW Team 94]] from Normandy through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany, interrogating prisoners and translating captured documents, and stayed in military intelligence until his 1946 discharge. He returned to Northwestern and later wrote ''A Few Who Made a Difference: The World War II Teams of the Military Intelligence Service'' (2004).

After the war he graduated from Pacific Coast University Law School in 1953 and worked in clothing manufacturing. He received the French Legion of Honor and died nine days before his 100th birthday.
