Kurt Kugelmann (1905–1959) was a German-born American metallurgist and military intelligence soldier. A 1943 Camp Ritchie graduate, he served overseas for eighteen months in prisoner interrogation and counterintelligence with XX Corps.

Biography

Kurt Kugelmann was born in Germany on December 28, 1905. He emigrated to the United States and established a long civilian career in metallurgy, a field that demanded close knowledge of industrial materials and processes. He worked for the Steel Metal Corporation in Long Island City for twenty-two years.

Kugelmann enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 12, 1943, and received Army Serial Number 32906164. His German language and technical background made him valuable to military intelligence. He entered the Military Intelligence Training Center at Camp Ritchie and graduated on October 23, 1943.

During the war Kugelmann served with XX Corps in the European theater. His assignments included interrogation of prisoners of war and work with the Counter Intelligence Corps. Over eighteen months overseas, he helped obtain and evaluate information needed by a corps moving across the continent and operating among German military personnel and civilians.

Kugelmann received the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged on November 21, 1945. He returned to civilian life and to his profession in the metal industry. He was married to Ella Kugelmann and remained in the New York area.

Kugelmann died on July 23, 1959, at the age of fifty-three. His career joined more than two decades of industrial experience with specialized wartime service in interrogation and counterintelligence.
