Sharon Delaney, granddaughter of Ritchie Boy Frank Hauser, recently contacted us inquiring about his service. Dan Gross, RB historian, was able to provide the following; FRANK C. HAUSER was born in Austria in 1911. He emigrated to the United States and found work as a leather belt maker. On July 31, 1942 he enlisted at Fort Jay (Governor’s Island, NY) as Pvt (ASN: 32417389) Frank completed his Basic training at Camp Croft SC on November 6, 1942 and became a naturalized U.S. Citizen at Spartanburg, SC. He studied to be a Radio Operator with the 61st Signal Radio Intercept Company and in June 1944 was transferred to Camp Ritchie. His language specialities included German, French, Italian, and Hungarian. Ritchie Boy Hauser started his training at Ritchie on June 19, 1944 in the 20th Class 6/19/1944 as a German IPW. He graduated in August 16, 1944 as a German Document Examiner. In September 4, 1944 he was promoted to S/Sgt. He was released from Camp Ritchie on September 18, 1944 and traveled to Camp Kilmer where he embarked via RMS Queen Mary. He arrived in Scotland on September 25, 1944. He served with the 9th Army and was a member of IPW team 140 along with the following teammates. Members of this team: Lt. Fisher (1913-1991) Lt. Goetz (1920-1968) S/Sgt Frank C. In an interesting coincidence, my Father, Walter Lubran, also sailed on the SS Georgic in the Fall of 1939. Like Frank Hauser, my Father also trained as an Interrogator of Prisoners of War (IPW). RB Hauser served with IPW team 140 and my Father served on IPW team 141.
