His to be wife was dating Chicago Mobster Frank Nitti, first cousin and bodyguard of Al Capone. Werner knew her from his work in the music industry and she was a lounge singer. Frank was very much married, and Frank was indicted for extorting the Hollywood film industry. The day before his scheduled grand jury appearance, Nitti committed suicide. Six days later, Werner and his "girlfriend" got married in haste and moved out of state.
