As such he may have seen combat during the battle of The Bulge which erupted three months later. 1st Lt Emanuel was one of seven men killed on 14 March 1945 during a parachute demonstration jump when a C-47 lost power due to a thrown propeller sending the aircraft plunging through a group of descending parachutists. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. shortly after his enlistment. He is buried in the King David Cemetery, Putnam Valley, NY
