On 4 November 1943, Started Special Graduate Training Class #1 MII French. On 23 November 1943, Completed Special Graduate Training Class #1 MII French. Studied mechanical dentistry in NY trade school. Worked as dental laboratory assistant. Born in Berlin to a Russian-Jewish family, he fled Nazi Europe via France and Spain and settled in New York. Drafted in May 1943, he changed his surname to Brombert during military service. After the war he became a scholar of nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature, teaching at Yale and Princeton, where he was Henry Putnam University Professor Emeritus.
