Nick C. Emanuel was born in Mannheim, Germany on July 5, 1924, and emigrated to the United States aboard the US Berengaria on December 6, 1936 with his mother and older brother. Nick enlisted in the US Army on July 26, 1943, despite not being a citizen. Emanuel was serving in the 82nd Airborne Division and was attached to the HQ Company, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment on 11 September 1944. As such he may have seen combat during the battle of The Bulge which erupted three months later. 1st Lt Emanuel was one of seven men killed on 14 March 1945 during a parachute demonstration jump when a C-47 lost power due to a thrown propeller sending the aircraft plunging through a group of descending parachutists. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. shortly after his enlistment. He is buried in the King David Cemetery, Putnam Valley, NY

His father, Eugene, was admitted as a citizen on 14 December 1943. On 12 April 1944, he returned to Camp Ritchie. On 14 March 1945, he died due to accident while performing (qualification) jump in Reims. Nick graduated high school in New York. On this Memorial Day, let us remember those Ritchie Boys who died in Europe while serving our country and fighting to defend our freedoms.
