* Background of the Ponger/Verber Case: Curt Ponger and Otto Verber, both Viennese Jews, were brothers-in-law who escaped Nazi persecution, arriving in the United States in 1938.
* 8 May 1943 — Became naturalized U.S. citizen.
* 23 May 1944 — Assigned to IPW Team 66 attached to XV Corps.
* In Britain, Ponger met his Viennese girl friend Vera (Otto Verber’s elder sister) whom he married later in 1948.
