Werner Erwin Stark, February 12 1921, born in Munich Germany, was from a Jewish family of textile merchants. His parents and sister were able to join him shortly thereafter.
Werner Erwin Stark was born on 12 February 1921 in Munich, Germany, into a Jewish family of textile merchants. With his older brother Walter he immigrated to the United States via France in 1938; his parents and sister followed soon after. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, attended ASTP at the University of Illinois in November 1943 as a private first class, and trained in counterintelligence at Camp Ritchie (Class 25).


In November 1943, Stark attended ASTP at University of Illinois as Pfc.
In Europe Stark performed counterintelligence work that included operating under the cover name “Karl Werner.” An oral history summary at the Holocaust Memorial Center (Zekelman Family Campus) also associates him with interpreter duty at the Nuremberg trials and other postwar intelligence tasks. He later novelized aspects of his wartime experience in the manuscript ''Alias Karl Werner''. Stark died on 25 July 1995 in Oakland, Michigan.
 
During World War Two, Stark enlisted in the US Army and was trained in counterintelligence at Fort Ritchie, Maryland.
