Theodore Lux Feininger (T. Lux Feininger) was born in 1910 in Zehlendorf, a suburb of Berlin, Germany, son of the painter Lyonel Feininger. He later became a painter and photographer associated with the Bauhaus circle. During World War II he spent more than three years in the U.S. Army in military intelligence, using his knowledge of Germany and the German language; he trained at Camp Ritchie, Maryland, in Class 4 as a corporal.
In 1987–1988 he gave an oral-history interview to the Archives of American Art (Smithsonian) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He died in 2011.
