Hans F. W. Koehnke (1910–1990) was a Ritchie Boy (from Germany; Protestant) who trained at Camp Ritchie in class 10.

Biography

Ritchie Boy Hans Koehnke was born on September 20, 1910 in Hamburg. He emigrated from Hamburg, Germany in 1936. His daughter, who forwarded these documents and photos of her late Father (he passed away in 1990). According to his discharge papers, he had enlisted in the US Army in January 1941, and, apparently he had already obtained US Citizenship because alien residents were restricted from serving in the military until March 1942. Let's honor Ritchie Boy Hans Koehnke on this Memorial Day! Ritchie Boy Hans Koehnke obtained his training in military intelligence at Camp Ritchie's MITC in 1943 with a specialty in Interrogation of Prisoners of War. During his military service, heachieved the Rank of TSgt (Sergeant - Technician Grade 4), and received numerous medals for his service. According to his daughter, "I am excited that he was a part of this important fight against Hitler!!! He was proud of the work he did."

Ritchie Boy Hans Koehnke's daughter has forwarded several other photos from his war service, and also wrote about his transition to life in America after fleeing Germany. Here is one of those pictures. Let's remember that today is Memorial Day and we need to honor all Veterans, including the heroic Ritchie Boys!
