After WWII, he graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art and was a talented artist as evidenced by this 9 3/4 x 8 5/8 piece that I found on EBay. It appears to be a German soldier descending from a rock formation. In the lower left hand corner it reads MITC CAMP RITCHIE, MD.
