John Hewitt Mitchell was a Ritchie Boy. He is another individual where I have limited information on. John was born July 3, 1914 in New Haven, Connecticut. John married Frances E. Farnham on June 18, 1938. He received a Ph.D. in history at Yale in 1941 and the following year was an assistant in instruction at Yale and also taught at the Hartford Junior College. He then became an instructor in history at Wellesley, continuing there until he entered service as a Private in the summer of 1943. He was at Camp Lee, Va., for a time, was later at Camp Ritchie, Md., then stationed in England. John passed away on Jan 25, 1998 at the age of 83. | |||
