William Ellsworth Pringle was a Ritchie Boy. William was born June 13, 1916 in Pennsylvania. He graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh in 1939. He took courses in Metallurgy at Pennsylvania State College in 1941. He was employed with Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp., Pittsburgh, studying customers' requirements, conducted time studies and improved operations practices, and was Production Engineer from 1939 to 1942. He served in World War II, from April 27, 1942, to May 22, 1946 as intelligence Staff Officer, with the rank of First Lieutenant. He was the Intelligence Officer of an Antiaircraft Automatic Weapons battalion, and later an Aerial Photo Interpreter. He instructed in photo interpretation and became supervisor of instruction in intelligence at the Military Intelligence Training Center, Camp Ritchie, Maryland as a Captain. He was Economics Officer in Military Government and coordinated reports of surveys made of steel plants in the American Occupation zone in Germany. Later, he served as metals industries representative on the German Standard-of-Living Board, Office of Military Government. Captain William Ellsworth Pringle was awarded the European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. William passed away on Feb 17, 1995.
