Biography

Wolfgang J. Lehmann (1921–2018) was a German-born Ritchie Boy who trained at Camp Ritchie in class 9 and served overseas as a second lieutenant. In September 1944, while with the U.S. Fifth Army near Firenzuola, Italy, he and Sgt. Michael J. Baglio gathered information from Italian partisans (National Museum of American Diplomacy).

After the war, Lehmann served as a Foreign Service Officer from 1951 to 1983. In Saigon, he managed the evacuation of the U.S. Embassy under fire during the last days of the Vietnam War; his 1975 day planner records the evacuation on 29–30 April 1975.
