He served in World War II, from April 27, 1942, to May 22, 1946 as intelligence Staff Officer, with the rank of First Lieutenant. He was the Intelligence Officer of an Antiaircraft Automatic Weapons battalion, and later an Aerial Photo Interpreter. He instructed in photo interpretation and became supervisor of instruction in intelligence at the Military Intelligence Training Center, Camp Ritchie, Maryland as a Captain. He was Economics Officer in Military Government and coordinated reports of surveys made of steel plants in the American Occupation zone in Germany.
