Edmond G. Farah (1923 – 1 August 2014) was a Ritchie Boy who trained at Camp Ritchie in class 22.
Biography
Farah, passed away on August 1, 2014 at the age of 90. Farah was the 5th Marines Intelligence Chief and after six months he returned to the states and relieved from active duty. Born in New York City on September 11, 1923. Between the age of 8 and 16 his family lived in Damascus, Syria as a result of the financial crash in the USA, they returned to the U.S. in August 1939. Ed was in the Auxiliary Coast Guard for a period of two years doing submarine patrol. Then on December 13, 1942, he joined the USMC. After boot camp, he was assigned as a drill instructor at Parris Island. One and a half years later he volunteered for scouting training at Camp Ritchie, MD. He then joined the 5th Marine, 1st Division on April 1st (Easter Sunday). They landed on Okinawa and the battle lasted three months, the Marines, Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Army Air Corps lost some 15,000 KIA. After the battle, the 1st Marine Division landed in Catina to accept their surrender. In 1948 and was reactivated due to the Korean War in 1950. He was assigned as Combat Intelligence Chief of the division G-2. He was released from active duty on December 31, 1954 but remained in the reserves, doing his two weeks a year and one weekend a month and was promoted to Warrant Officer and in 1983 retired at the age of 60 after a total of 41 years with the rank of CWO4.
