- 26 February 1942 — Enlisted in Army at Fort Custer, MI as Pvt (ASN: 36173861) Basic training at Camp Claiborne, LA.
- 16 July 1943 — Graduated with Class 8 (IPW Ge).
- 18 August 1943 — Promoted to 1st Lt. (ASN 01821974).
- 23 August 1943 — Flew to London as OIC IPW Team 5 attached to 1st Infantry Division.
