Warner W. K. Katz (1919–2006) was a United States Army Staff Sergeant who trained at Camp Ritchie, Maryland, in Class 24. Warner enlisted at Cp Upton Yaphank, New York.

Biography[edit | edit source]

He worked as a had a business career. After he shipped back to the States (he suffered from recurrent malaria and dengue fever), he was sent to Camp Ritchie where he graduated on Dec. He became a naturalized citizen in India on June 28, 1944.

Timeline[edit | edit source]

  • Born 1919.
  • Born Born Oct. 12, 1919 in Bad Wildungen, a small town near Frankfurt, to Isaac and Johanna (Leopold) Katz. His father was a horse dealer and later a car dealer. (Boston Globe obit).
  • Katz arrived in U.S. in 1938 (from Italy) with his older brother Julius (b. 1910?), and found employment as a sorter of (Persian Lamb) furs. He was drafted into the Army in June 1941, and served as a machine gunner and squad leader with the 182nd Infantry Division in Guadalcanal for one and a half years (Army units relieved Marines); he then volunteered.
  • He became a naturalized citizen in India on June 28, 1944.
