Robert M. Taylor (15 September 1905 – 3 August 1996) was a United States Army officer who trained at Camp Ritchie, Maryland, in Class 9 and served in the Aleutian campaign.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Robert M. Taylor, son of Lillie Gray and James Mack Taylor of Clarksville, Arkansas, was born there on 15 September 1905. He graduated from Clarksville High School and attended the College of the Ozarks.
Taylor entered military service on 23 December 1940 as company commander of Company E, 153rd Infantry, Arkansas National Guard. He trained at Camp Robinson, Arkansas, and at Camp Ritchie (Class 9), becoming an intelligence officer. On 2 March 1942 his unit went to Fort Glenn on Umnak Island, Alaska; he remained overseas more than thirty-three months, seeing action in the Aleutian campaign and later serving on Adak Island.
Released from active duty at the Army and Navy General Hospital at Hot Springs on 6 April 1946, he held the American Defense Service Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one battle star, the American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Ribbon. Taylor died on 3 August 1996.
