John R. Wahl (1913–1993) was a United States Army Technical Sergeant who trained at Camp Ritchie, Maryland, in Class 22. John enlisted at New Orleans, Louisiana.

Biography

From August 1945 to March 1946, John Wahl may have served as commandant of the Hersbruck Internment Camp (a satellite of Flossenburg). He [Note: Wahl wrote in one of his letters that he is referenced in the April 16, 1945 overseas edition of Newsweek. Wahl’s name was also not found in the Personnel Rosters of 1946 for Detachment H 265, Third Military Government Regiment, HQ Company C (Box 1304).

In a Landrat report dated 21 June 1946, it was stated that the Military Government has been directed successively by Major Frank M. He more information on the family is available in the Leo Baeck Institute (Center for Jewish History) in the Marion and Max Wahl Collection and two other LBI collections. He the main source of information for the Wahl family records is the Marion and Max Wahl Collection at the Center for Jewish History (Leo Baeck Institute).

Wahl was later stationed at Nuremberg and served as part of War Crimes Investigating Team No 6832 as a civilian Interrogator-Examiner.

Mother Bertha was sent from Theresienstadt to Auschwitz where she died in October 1944.
