Bernard Raymond Dick (4 January 1909 – 6 January 2001) was a Rutland attorney and Ritchie Boy who later served as a judge advocate officer in Hawaii and as Rutland Municipal Court judge.
Biography edit
Bernard Raymond Dick was born on 4 January 1909 in Rutland, Vermont. A catcher on the Rutland High School baseball team, he graduated from the University of Alabama in 1931, studied law at New York University, and was admitted to the Vermont bar in 1937.
He enlisted in the Army as a private in November 1942. Because of his legal training he was assigned to intelligence work at Camp Ritchie (Class 4). In 1944 he attended the Judge Advocate General’s school at Ann Arbor, Michigan, received a commission as second lieutenant, and was stationed in Hawaii, rising to captain by 1946 as chief of the claims division for the Central Pacific Area. For that work he received the Army Commendation Ribbon. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Dick returned to Rutland practice (Bove, Billado and Dick; later partnerships including Hackel and Hull). In 1947 Governor Ernest W. Gibson named him judge of the Rutland Municipal Court, a post he held for four years. He died on 6 January 2001.
