Arthur Field (1910–1976), born Arthur Fischl, was an Austrian-born Jewish Ritchie Boy (roster Class 21; ASN 32944674) who served as a document examiner with Third Army.

Biography

Arthur Field was born in 1910 in Austria as Arthur Fischl. He later emigrated to the United States and enlisted in the Army at Albany, New York, on 14 September 1943 as a private (ASN 32944674).

Field trained at the Military Intelligence Training Center at Camp Ritchie, Maryland (roster Class 21; family sources also associate him with Class 22). NARA personal-history material notes his name change from Fischl and German-language course attendance. He was assigned as a document examiner attached to Third Army rather than to a numbered IPW, MII, OB, or PI team, and was later promoted to staff sergeant.

Field died in 1976.

Research notes

• A second Classes 1–31 roster row listed Fischl, Arthur (332944674) (Class 22, section 5B, PFC) — same man as Arthur Field (32944674) (born Fischl / Fischel; NARA ASN 32944674). The Fischl ASN appears corrupt (extra digit vs 32944674). Canonical page keeps roster Class 21; Class 22 association remains a research note only. Duplicate page retired.
