Kurt M. Gebel (21 March 1920 – 24 March 2002) was a Ritchie Boy (from Germany; Protestant) who trained at Camp Ritchie in class 25.
Biography edit
Kurt M. Gebel was born on 21 March 1920 in Hamburg, Germany, and grew up in New York City. He graduated from Far Rockaway High School in 1937 and later studied at several institutions, including Brooklyn College, Northeastern University, Harvard University, and Johns Hopkins University.
Gebel enlisted on 30 December 1942. He spent two and a half years working in military intelligence at Camp Ritchie, graduated with Class 25, and later served in the European Theater during World War II.
In 1946 he married Caroline E. Selby and began work in the engineering department at Landis Tool Company, where he was responsible for twelve patents before retiring in 1983. A longtime American Red Cross board member and blood-service chair, Gebel donated more than twenty-three gallons of blood. He died on 24 March 2002.
