Privacy policy
This page says what this wiki publishes, what stays off a public page, and how to ask for a correction. The short version is Corrections and privacy on About.
What is published edit
This wiki continues the public Ritchie Boys research begun by Daniel (Dan) Gross. Soldier pages, including Women's Army Corps (WAC) profiles, are a public starting point, not a finished biography of every trainee.
A soldier page can include an infobox of public fields (name, Army serial number, class, section, rank, vitals, nativity, religion, enlistment, IPW teams, and related public fields), research notes, and, where they have been added, a biography, photographs, and sources. Class, section, and related roster fields for Classes 1–31 come from U.S. government training-roster records held by the National Archives. Other infobox fields draw on WWII Army enlistment records, the 1940 census, and related public government data. How those layers were combined is on About the data.
Selected findings from private research files may be written onto a page, with a descriptive citation. The files themselves are not put on the wiki.
What is kept off a page edit
Do not add private contact details for living relatives to soldier pages, Research notes, gallery captions, or uploads.
These were not imported, and are not to be added:
- Social Security numbers and Death Master File internals
- Email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses, personal correspondence, and other living-person contact details
- Personal notes, and other sensitive or private details
- The raw NARA enlistment dump string
- Dan Gross's original Excel timeline/roster file, the private Word-document timelines, the Gross–Eddy WAC roster spreadsheet, and the Gross faculty "first 13" spreadsheet. Selected public fields from those files may appear on a page. The original files stay private.
- Internal merge logs and ambiguous-review queues. Those stay with the research project.
- Inferences, speculation, ambiguous identity matches, and material conflicts. Those remain unpublished or in the private review queue.
Folders used by editors (RB Archive and similar working files) are not uploaded wholesale. Private or sensitive detail in them, including addresses, Social Security numbers, and medical material, is excluded. Only clear, privacy-screened findings are published.
Do not upload files you do not have permission to share.
How to ask for a correction edit
Anyone can correct factual errors on a soldier page. See Contribute.
For private or sensitive material — Social Security numbers, street addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, or other living-person contact details that should not be public — use Contact Us and describe the page and the text or file to remove. We treat those requests as priority corrections.
Please use the form on Contact Us. That form is how privacy or correction requests reach the project team that maintains this wiki, not the Ritchie History Museum. Preferred link: the Contact Us form.
