Emil E. Shalit (24 December 1909–23 April 1983) was an Austrian-born Ritchie Boy (Class 11) who later worked in the London music industry.
Biography edit
Emil E. Shalit (24 December 1909–23 April 1983) was an Austrian-born Ritchie Boy (ASN 32877222; Class 11). U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs BIRLS data list his enlistment as 5 April 1943 and release as 7 February 1947. After the war he settled in London and became a successful businessman in the music industry.
Dan Gross confirmed him as a Ritchie Boy from Camp Ritchie personnel-card research but did not find him on surviving IPW / Order of Battle / MII team lists; his post-Scotland assignment remains uncertain (team duty, other intelligence work, or transfer to another German-speaking unit such as OSS, CIC, or ALSOS are among the possibilities Gross noted).
Research notes edit
- Researcher Dan Almond (Italy) corresponded with Bernie Lubran and Dan Gross, November 2020, seeking Ritchie details and family contacts.
- Gross: not found on IPW/OB/MII team lists; assignment after arrival in Scotland unknown.
- Ancestry draft card (per Lubran): father Jacob listed as next of kin; age 29 at draft.
- Gross pointed to Lackner & Traussnig 2015 article on Austrian trainees at Camp Ritchie (ResearchGate link in misc file).
- Imported birth place had been “Carlsbad, Austria.” There is no Carlsbad in modern Austria; this may refer to Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary) in Bohemia (Austria-Hungary in 1909). City left blank pending a clearer source.
