Hubert M. Lewis (ASN 01184097) was a Ritchie Boy (from United States; Protestant) who trained at Camp Ritchie in class 11.
Biography
He served as G-2 from 16 Sept to _Nov 1945. The following article was from "The Duke Alumni Register, February 1946" "Alumnus Decorated" Major Hubert M. Duke University (BS Chemistry). Duke University (Post-graduate, Chemistry). Lewis, '33, returns from forty months with the Army bringing with him a number of citations for meritorious service overseas. While at Duke, "Red" Lewis was several times a Southern Conference track star. The former staff member of the athletic department was awarded an Air Medal and a Bronze Star and an Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a second Bronze Star. Known on the campus as "Red," the popular Duke coach entered the service as a private, training first with the Army Air Forces Technical Training Command in Florida. He was commissioned at Fort Sill, Okla., in July, 1943, received further training at Camp Ritchie, and later was shipped to the Pacific Theater, where he served as officer in charge of the G-2 unit of the 25th Division. Successive promotions marked his way through Luzon to Nagoya. Before joining the Duke coaching staff he did graduate work at North Carolina State College.
