Alois J. Liethen (1908–1961) was a United States Army Second Lieutenant who trained at Camp Ritchie, Maryland, in Class 15.
Biography
Alois attended college at University of Wisconsin (BS, Economics). He worked as salesman for feed manufacturer. On 27 November 1942, he enlisted in Army in Milwaukee as Pvt (ASN: 36287007). In June 1943 he served as Battery Officer with 134th AAA Gunnery Battalion, Fort Bliss, TX. On 3 June 1943 he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant (ASN: 01056782). On 10 December 1943 he arrived as student at Camp Ritchie. In 1944 he was promoted to first lieutenant. On 4 January 1944 he entered Class 15 (IPW Ge). On 3 March 1944 he graduated from Class 15 (Officer in charge IPW Ge Team). On 29 April 1944 he was released from Camp Ritchie. On 10 May 1944 he embarked from New York (Camp Shanks) on 26,689 ton RMS Andes. On 18 May 1944 he debarked in Liverpool. On 5 June 1944 he served as Officer in Charge of IPW Team 69 attached to XX Corps (Third Army). Alois Liethen is well known since he served as interpreter for Generals.
