Biography

Peter S. Stepanek (24 May 1924 – 23 May 2022) was born in Norton, Massachusetts, to John and Helena Stepanek, immigrants from Russia and Ukraine. He began elementary school speaking only Russian and German, graduated from Norton High School, and enlisted in the Army in 1943. He served as a counter-intelligence officer in the European theater and, as a Ritchie Boy, interrogated senior Nazi officers in connection with the Nuremberg Trials. He later lived in Brewster, Massachusetts.
