Victor E. Delnore (1914–1998) was a United States Army Captain who trained at Camp Ritchie, Maryland, in Class 2.

Biography

In March 1945, Delnore served as Commander, 46th Tank Battalion, 13th Armored Division. In 2012, Delnore attended Papers (related to Japan) donated to the University of Maryland. Victor returned to the States, earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Maryland, and, at age 55, became a teacher of government and history at a local community college. He became a derivative American citizen in 1932, and in 1940 was called up to active Army duty. He trained to become an administrator of occupied territories instead, and, on September 23, 1946, Colonel Victor Delnore arrived in Nagasaki to set up headquarters for his Nagasaki Military Government Team. • 1916 — Moved to the U.S.; settled in Worcester, MA.
• 1932 — Became naturalized American citizen.
• He became a derivative American citizen in 1932, and in 1940 was called up to active Army duty.
• 17 October 1942 — Graduated Class 2 as Interpreter (Arabic).
• 1943 — Promoted to Major.
• Bronze Star G.O. 150 12 November 1945 (at Camp Cooke, CA).
• March 1945 — Served as Commander, 46th Tank Battalion, 13th Armored Division.
• Mid 1945 — Returned to U.S. and remained in Army.
• He was assigned in Europe to the 2nd and 13th Armored Divisions, then given command of the 46th Tank Battalion of the 13th Armored Division with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He led the 46th in campaigns through the Rhineland and Bavaria. On April 17, 1945, near Mudlinghoven, Germany, he organized a volunteer commando task force to take out the enemy.
• 29 August 1946 — Left to become Commander of the Nagasaki Military Government Team.
• Delnore returned to the States, earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Maryland, and, at age 55, became a teacher of government and history at a local community college.
• Earned Bronze Star and Silver Star Medals for bravery.
• Served with 8th Armored Division (APO 258), Fort Knox, KY.
• Transferred to 13th Armored Division, Camp Beale, CA.
