Charles Sajben Jr. (28 July 1913 – 22 November 1966) was a New Jersey-born Ritchie Boy (Class 6) later mentioned as a captain in the 63rd Infantry Division newspaper Blood and Fire.
Biography
Charles Sajben Jr. was born on 28 July 1913 in New Jersey. He trained at Camp Ritchie in Class 6.
On 1 July 1944, Volume 2, Number 3 of the 63rd Infantry Division newspaper Blood and Fire carried the article “Two Lieutenants Become Captains,” which reported promotions among officers assigned to division headquarters and named Sajben among those advanced to captain. A later issue (Volume 2, Number 22, 11 November 1944) published “Ritchie Team Shows How to Quiz Nazis,” documenting IPW work in the division’s newspaper of record.
Family research states that Sajben died on 22 November 1966 and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, and that his headstone identifies him as a colonel with a Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster; the headstone image itself was not present in the RB Archive folder reviewed for this update.
