Harry G. “Cecil” Skipper (8 May 1920 – 25 February 2009) was an Illinois-born Ritchie Boy who completed Division Class 36 at Camp Ritchie and served as an intelligence NCO with the 216th Armored Engineer Battalion.

Biography

Harry G. Skipper, known as Cecil, was born on 8 May 1920 in Illinois. He studied electrical engineering at Millikin University and worked as a stock clerk before enlisting on 11 December 1941. From 2 January to 2 April 1942 he completed Infantry Replacement Training at Camp Roberts, California (Company C, 87th Infantry Training Battalion).

Skipper finished a special Division Class 36 course at Camp Ritchie from 17 November to 15 December 1944, covering German Army fundamentals and Army Information Education. As a technical sergeant with Headquarters Company, 216th Armored Engineer Battalion, he served as an intelligence NCO collecting and distributing enemy information in the Central Europe campaign.

He was honorably discharged at Camp Grant, Illinois, on 19 January 1946. His awards included the American Defense Service Ribbon, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with one bronze battle star, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. He died on 25 February 2009.
