The Stories/Camp Ritchie naturalization (July 1943)
Camp Ritchie naturalization (July 1943) covers a District Court ceremony held on 20 July 1943 and reported by The Washington Post on 21 July 1943: 85 soldiers—almost all from Camp Ritchie, Maryland—were naturalized before Justice James W. Morris. The men appeared in uniform.
The article highlights two brief personal stories (paraphrased here): William Plotnik (listed as Plotnick in the narrative), a Latvian-born soldier whose merchant-marine ships were sunk before he could enlist; and Ludwig / Louis Barth, a German-born volunteer who had served with French forces and was evacuated with the British Expeditionary Force. The paper then prints a “complete list” of those naturalized (82 names readable on this scan; the headline figure is 85).
