Raymond A. Arsenault (10 January 1924–2 March 1945) was a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve corporal who trained briefly at Camp Ritchie (Class 20) and was killed in action on Iwo Jima.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Raymond A. Arsenault was born on 10 January 1924 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve on 15 December 1942 from the Boston area (home of record Waltham, Massachusetts). After recruit training at Parris Island he served at the Marine Barracks, Norfolk Naval Operating Base, rising to corporal. In July 1944, while with H&S Company, Infantry Training Regiment at Camp Lejeune, his record shows temporary duty at Camp Ritchie, Cascade, Maryland—matching roster placement in Class 20.
He later joined H&S Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines, 4th Marine Division. Arsenault was killed in action on 2 March 1945 on Iwo Jima. He is interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu. Service summaries credit him with the Purple Heart and other Pacific-war campaign awards.
